Purdue Returns to Chicago for Windy City Invite

CHICAGO – In the penultimate meet of the regular season, the Purdue track & field team makes its second trip to Chicago for the Windy City Invitational from February 10-11 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center at Gately Park.

CHICAGO – In the penultimate meet of the regular season, the Purdue track & field team makes its second trip to Chicago for the Windy City Invitational from February 10-11 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center at Gately Park.
 
The meet begins on Friday, February 10, with the first field event at 3 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. CT, and the opening running event at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT. Friday concludes for Purdue with the 60-meter finals at 8:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, the day commences with both field and running events at 1:40 p.m. ET / 12:40 p.m. CT, and the meet's final event, the 4x400 relay, is at 5:05 p.m. ET / 4:05 p.m. CT.

Forty-two Boilermakers will represent the Old Gold and Black in Chicago, with 25 men and 17 women set to compete. Along with Purdue and host-Wisconsin, the 13-team field includes Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame and UCLA.
 
PURDUE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Fifth-year Johnny Vanos once again is ranked in the top-10 nationally, as he is No. 9 in the weight throw in the week three national TFRI top-25 rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Vanos' mark of 22.10 meters is the second-best throw in school history.
 
In the #EventSquad rankings, the women are No. 18 in the pole vault, while the men are No. 20 nationally in both the weight throw and 60m. The women also are No. 24 in the 60m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: WEEKEND AT NOTRE DAME
The Boilermakers are coming off a weekend at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, where junior Cierra Williams rose to No. 5 in school history in the 400m.
 
With a time of 53.36 to win the event, Williams moved up from No. 8 all-time. Senior Safin Wills added a win in the triple jump and a total of 10 personal-best marks were recorded at the two-day meet from February 3-4.

LAST MONTH IN CHICAGO
Four top-10 times in school history and four event wins for the Boilermakers highlighted the Wisconsin Midwest Invitational on January 14 in Chicago.
 
Fifth-year Justin Becker and sophomore Brett Otterbacher each notched victories with times that ranked in the top six in the Boilermaker record books. Otterbacher ran the second-fastest 600-meter time, in 1:17.52, while Becker won the 60m final with the No. 6-fastest time of 6.69.
 
Junior Deborah Obadofin earned her second consecutive long jump win to begin the season and sophomore Praise Aniamaka added a win in the triple jump. Sophomore Nathan Walker and freshman Zachary Evans both registered top-10 times, in the mile and 60m prelim, respectively.

A YEAR AGO AT THE WINDY CITY INVITATIONAL
At last year's inaugural Windy City Invite, Curt Eckstein broke his own school record in the 3,000m to highlight Purdue's weekend from February 11-12, 2022. Shianne Dacosta (400m), John Pieper (3,000m), Blake Selm (5,000m) and Vanos (weight throw) joined Eckstein with top-10 times in the record books. Eckstein, Selm, Vanos and Tamar Greene (triple jump) all notched runner-up finishes as 20 personal-best marks were recorded at the two-day meet. Recap day one and day two from Chicago.
 
NEXT UP: ONE MORE REGULAR-SEASON MEET
The Boilermakers conclude the regular season at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday, February 18. Then it's on to the Big Ten Championships, which will once again be hosted by the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, from February 24-25.
