WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team will have 24 entries in next weekend's 2022 NCAA East Preliminary Round, as NCAA qualifiers were announced on Thursday.
Seventeen Boilermakers and three relay squads earned postseason berths and will make the short trip to Bloomington, Indiana, from May 25-28 for the NCAA prelims.
Senior Antonio Mitchell II (100m, 200m), junior Camille Christopher (100m, 200m) and sophomores Kerris Roberts (100m, 200m) and Safin Wills (long jump, triple jump) qualified in multiple individual events for Purdue.
In addition to Christopher and Roberts, the women will be represented by junior Jessica Bray (pole vault), sophomores Kaia Harris (discus), Saran Kouyeth, Annamaria Leszczynska (400m hurdles), K'Ja Talley and Cierra Williams and freshmen Shianne Dacosta (400m) and Rieko Wilford. The women also will race in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
The men's qualifiers, along with Mitchell II and Wills, are seniors Kelly Cook Jr. (hammer throw), Curt Eckstein (10,000m) and Tamar Greene (triple jump) and sophomores Jabari Bryant (400m hurdles) and LJ Hill (triple jump). The Boilermaker men also will run in the 4x100 relay.
The NCAA East Prelims, along with the West Prelims, feature 48 qualifiers in each individual event and 24 teams in each relay. The top 12 finishers in every event from both the east and west will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 8-11.
Along with the 17 Boilermakers headed to Bloomington, junior Isaiah Martin qualified as one of 24 national qualifiers in the decathlon. He advances directly to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, as the decathlon is not contested at regionals.
