NIL education firm Altius Sports Partners to provide educational support to Boilermaker student-athletes, coaches and staff
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Athletics has announced an exciting addition to the Boilermaker student-athlete experience, as the athletics department and The Brandr Group (TBG) have launched a group licensing program for current Purdue student-athletes, which already includes student-athlete representation from all 18 sport programs.
Boilermaker student-athletes now have the opportunity to utilize TBG's licensing resources to profit from their name, image and likeness (NIL) while using Purdue's official trademarks and logos. Interested licensees should contact Rachel Maruno at TBG for more details.
The new partnership further bolsters Purdue's EMPOWER program, an initiative focused on providing every Boilermaker with opportunities to excel in all facets of the student-athlete experience. That includes Purdue's commitment as an athletics department to helping its student-athletes build their respective brands and profit from their NIL during their collegiate careers and beyond.
"Providing each member of our teams with all the resources needed to be successful in every aspect of their experience here at Purdue is our top priority," said vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski. "This agreement with The Brandr Group provides our Boilermaker student-athletes the opportunity to think and act entrepreneurially, which aligns perfectly with the culture of our university."
TBG's program will create opportunities for current Purdue student-athletes to voluntarily join a group licensing program of three-or-more individuals from the same team or one with six-or-more student-athletes from any combination of sport programs. While TBG will not guarantee NIL opportunities -- the marketplace will determine the demand -- it will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes.
TBG has decades of management experience with some of the world's largest brands, managing group rights programs for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space. The company has recently announced partnerships with Alabama, UNC, Ohio State, Texas, Indiana and Michigan State since collegiate NIL rules changed on July 1 and has announced a number of partnerships with these schools in apparel, merchandise, NFT, health, fitness and several other categories
"Purdue Athletics has shown incredible vision and foresight in the ways in which they have adopted our group licensing opportunities," said Wesley Haynes, CEO of The Brandr Group. "Programs like Purdue, who aggressively seek to be trailblazers in the Name, Image, Likeness space will see incredible benefits for their student-athletes."
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program allows for the same opportunities to be available for student-athletes at the collegiate level. Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Purdue merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite Boilermakers who have joined their respective group licensing program once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
Altius Sports Partners, a leading NIL advisory and education firm, is providing education on group licensing to student-athletes, coaches and staff as part of its ongoing partnership with Purdue and as TBG's official education provider.
