WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Grace Cleveland and Jael Johnson were named to the U.S. Collegiate National Team – Anaheim roster, which is composed of 28 student-athletes from across the nation.
The sophomore duo and the CNT Anaheim will train June 21-27 in Anaheim at the American Sports Centers where they will compete side-by-side with the U.S. Women's National Team as it makes final preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Cleveland was selected as an opposite, while Johnson was slated as a middle.
In total, the pair account for two of the team's five spots held by Big Ten players, making Purdue the only program in the conference to send two student-athletes to the Anaheim roster.
Following the 2019 season, Cleveland was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) third-team All-American. Dominating the net for Purdue with 1.08 blocks per set and a team-best 127 block assists, the Bloomington, Illinois, native was also named a first-team All-Big Ten honoree.
Johnson, the 2019 Big Ten Volleyball Purdue Sportsmanship honoree, produced a key 44 blocks this season. The Mooresville, Indiana, native was a difference-maker in the NCAA Second Round victory over Marquette, where she registered a career-high seven block assists.
The Boilermakers join Caitlin Newton, who was selected for the CNT Gold roster a week ago. As an outside hitter, Newton will play side-by-side with the U.S. Women's National Team July 5-12 before the team's departure for Tokyo.
