WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After competing in four of its first five Big Ten duals on the road, the Purdue wrestling team comes home to Holloway Gymnasium on Friday and Sunday to host No. 14 Minnesota and No. 9 Wisconsin. The Boilermakers and Golden Gophers will go at it Friday at 7 p.m. ET, airing live on BTN+ and FloWrestling, while Sunday's dual against the Badgers is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
 
PROMOTIONAL EVENTS
Both of this weekend's duals have a promotional event attached to them, featuring Purdue's annual Hammer Down Cancer Dual against Minnesota on Friday and team autographs after Sunday's match vs. Wisconsin.
 
Friday's match is the Boilermakers' annual fund raiser to support cancer research as the team will wear special-edition singlets that will be auctioned off online with all proceeds going to the Tyler Trent Research Endowment and the Purdue Center for Cancer Research. The volt-colored Nike singlets represent and honor cancer survivors and bids will start at $80. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.

The Boilermakers continue to hold outstanding marks in both the dual and tournament polls from the various media sources, including a No. 13 ranking in the NWCA Coaches Dual Poll and the No. 7 mark in FloWrestling's tournament poll. Purdue also owns dual poll marks of No. 11 from TheOpenMat, No. 12 from WIN Magazine and No. 16 from FloWrestling and InterMat. WIN has Purdue at No. 8 in its Tournament Power Index, while TheOpenMat ranks the Boilermakers No. 12, InterMat has them No. 14 and TrackWrestling has them No. 16.

LAST TIME OUT
Purdue improved to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in conference duals with victories at Maryland and No. 22 Rutgers over the weekend, winning 37-4 over the Terrapins and securing the team win in dramatic fashion over the Scarlet Knights 20-18. Falls from Brunner and Penola and a technical fall from Schroder led the rout in College Park, while Filius sealed the win in Piscataway with a 4-2 overtime decision after Rutgers had led by five with four matches left.


 
PURDUE NOTES
• Ersland was named the Midseason Coach of the Year by FloWrestling, and was tabbed as one of the top midseason coaching performances by InterMat.
The Boilermakers have won 90 of a possible 130 matches in dual competition this season.
• Purdue wrestlers have been to overtime 25 times in 2019-20, winning 19 times, including a 6-0 mark from Lydy and 4-1 records from Coleman and Penola.
• The Boilermakers are 22-15 overall in ranked matchups, and 81-9 when a ranked Purdue wrestler faces an unranked opponent.
• Penola and Lydy are tied for the best dual record in conference action at 4-1.
• Schroder leads the Boilermakers with 13 bonus-point victories on the season, including a team-best seven technical falls, and five bonus-point wins over ranked opponents.
• Schroder's six tech falls over NCAA Division I opponents ranks fourth the nation, trailing only Alex Madrigal (10), Spencer Lee (7) and Patrick Glory (7).
• Lydy has a team-best nine major decisions, including two straight last weekend at Maryland and Rutgers.
• At 24-1 overall, Lydy is off to the best start by a Boilermaker in 17 seasons.
• Lydy's 104 wins are tied for 12th in program history, 1-of-17 wrestlers in program history with at least 100 wins, while his 254 career takedowns are tied for 15th all-time at Purdue.
• Coleman leads the Boilermakers with 76 takedowns this season, the most by a Purdue freshman since Cashé Quiroga in 2010 (124).
• The Boilermakers will be without 165-pound freshman Emil Soehnlen for the rest of the year after suffering a leg injury in December which required season-ending surgery.
