WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Following a decent start to the season, the competition ramps up this weekend at the loaded Gopher Invitational.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins Sunday with 36 holes at the beautiful Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota. Action will conclude Sunday with 18 more holes on the 7,368-yard, par-71 layout.
Purdue will bring seven players to Minnesota, with its counting team consisting of three juniors and two freshmen. The field consists of three nationally-ranked teams and four more that were receiving votes in the preseason Golfweek Coaches Poll.

A rolling terrain carved out of 248 acres of Minnesota prairie, Windsong Farm provides a stiff challenge for all golfers. Ranked No. 7 by Golf Digest among Minnesota courses, the course will play almost 7,400 yards this weekend. Oklahoma won last year's title with a 5-under par 847, just three shots ahead of Texas. Purdue finished tied for fifth at 12-over par 864. A pair of golfers shared individual medalist honors at 7-under par 206. Timmy Hildebrand led Purdue with a T-11th place showing.

This marks Purdue's third appearance in the Gopher Invitational, opening the season at Windsong Farms in both 2017-18 and 2018-19. The Boilermakers finished ninth in the 2017 event before finishing T-5th last year.

- Joe Weiler, Junior: Weiler opened his fall campaign with a career-best, T-2nd finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate … recorded career-low, 18-hole (68) and 54-hole scores (210) … has gone 103 holes since his last double bogey (third round at 2019 Big Ten Championships) … had an outstanding offseason, winning the Indiana Amateur Championship and placing fifth at the Indiana Open … appeared in 10 events last season, owning a 74.26 stroke average … recorded 10 rounds of even-par or better … set the tone in the first round of the Big Ten Championships with an opening-round 70.
- Jason Hong, Junior: Finished T-32nd at the Island Resort Intercollegiate which included an opening-round 71 … played well during qualifying to earn a spot in the lineup … appeared in nine events a year ago with a 75.00 stroke average … recorded a top-five finish at the Boilermaker Invitational (T-3) and a top-20 showing at the Chatham Hills Collegiate (T-12).
- Nick Dentino, Freshman: Finished second in his first career tournament with three identical rounds (2-under par 70) … recorded no double-bogeys during the event and led the team with 34 pars … his finish was the highest for a Purdue freshman in a season-opening event since Erich Johnston won the Purdue / Midwest shootout as a freshman in Sept. 2007 … an outstanding golfer at Carmel High School, Dentino won the 2019 Indiana State championship … led Carmel to the 2018 and 2019 Indiana High School State Championship … qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach in 2018.
- Peyton Snoeberger, Freshman: Played well in his first career tournament with a T-18th place finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, including rounds of 71-70 in the first two rounds … qualified for the Jr. PGA Championship, finishing T-24th after sitting in the top five after 36 holes … finished T-8th at the Indiana Amateur Championship and won medalist honors in 2018 U.S. Open local qualifying.
- Cole Bradley, Junior: Finished T-30th at the Island Resort Intercollegiate … led team with 16 birdies, but managed just 22 pars … had another strong season as a sophomore, averaging 72.57 strokes per round … posted back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Intercollegiate at the Grove and the Chatham Hills Collegiate last fall … recorded 18 rounds of even par or better, tied for the fifth most in Purdue history.
