WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - One of the nation's preeminent volleyball venues is getting a major enhancement for the 2019 season.
Two Daktronics LED video boards have been installed at Holloway Gymnasium this summer - one on both the north and south walls of the facility. Both measure 26-feet wide by 11 and a half-feet high with a six-millimeter display, the same as the Mackey Arena center-hung video board. They will further enhance what is widely regarded as the top volleyball gameday experience in the country.
"We are so fortunate to play in a wonderful facility with Belin Court in Holloway Gymnasium," Purdue volleyball head coach Dave Shondell said. "The opportunity to give our great fans an additional amenity with these two video boards is tremendous. They are another shining example of the commitment by our department to the volleyball program."
The video boards were made possible thanks to a lead gift by the Vorst family.
"Holloway Gymnasium has always provided a huge home-court advantage for our team," associate athletics director – marketing and fan experience Chris Peludat said. "We are really looking forward to building on that environment with the new video boards."
Holloway Gymnasium, formerly the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility, has been home to the Boilermakers since its opening in 1982. They have made it a distinct home-court advantage, winning 66 percent of their matches in the building through the 2018 season (371-190 record).
Purdue opens the season Sept. 1 against Ohio.
The Boilermakers sold out nine of their 18 home matches in 2018 and ranked 13th nationally with an average of 2,217 fans per game (97 percent capacity).
Holloway Gymnasium also is the home of Purdue wrestling.
