U.S. Women's National Team Release

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Delivering a match-high seven blocks, former Purdue volleyball standout Danielle Cuttino guided the U.S. Women's National Team to a sweep (25-16,25-14, 25-23) over Canada to claim a top-seven finish at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Cuttino was the only player to record more than five blocks in a match that saw Team USA out block Canada 16-4. The opposite complimented her defensive performance with four kills on 11 swings, claiming 11 points for the Americans.

The U.S. opened the first set with an 8-3 lead and maintained control with the help of four blocks from Cuttino. The Indianapolis native ended the opening frame with a kill and block leading to a 25-16 victory. The Americans carried their momentum into the second set with a 10-3 lead that would limit Canada to only 14 points in the set. In the final frame, Canada opened with four consecutive points, but Cuttino snapped the rally with a kill to shift the momentum back to the Americans. The U.S. utilized a six-point run to ultimately fend off a Canada comeback and win the match.

In addition to her team-leading performance against Canada, Cuttino also pocketed four kills and a block against Argentina, 10 kills and three blocks for 13 points versus Puerto Rico and four kills against Brazil.

Team USA will return to the court for the dual gender NORCECA Champions Cup where both the U.S. Women's and Men's National Teams host a four-team round-robin tournament Aug. 22-24 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
