WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski has announced the hiring of Peyton Stovall to the newly created position of assistant athletics director for student-athlete development. He will begin July 1.
Stovall will lead all career advancement activities, including resume writing and interview technique seminars, and assist student-athletes with job and internship placement. He will build relationships with businesses to provide experiential and employment opportunities while co-hosting career development events, educational career seminars and networking events. Stovall will work in concert with the John Purdue Club to secure financial support for and promote the career development programs. He also will be responsible for administering all community service initiatives for the Boilermakers.
"Peyton will be a tremendous addition as we look to continue elevating our student-athlete development efforts," Purdue deputy athletics director Jason Butikofer said. "His broad-based skill set as a forward-thinking high school athletics director combined with his background as a Division I student-athlete will immediately impact our operation in a significant way."
A native of Lafayette, Indiana, Stovall comes to Purdue from Lafayette Jefferson High School, where he has served as athletics director for the Lafayette School Corporation since 2013.
"As a hometown kid, I have a lot of passion for Purdue Athletics," Stovall said. "I look forward to helping all Boilermaker student-athletes reach their goals beyond athletics, which I believe will help build on the foundation of greatness that currently is being created on campus."
Under Bobinski, Purdue Athletics has put a renewed emphasis on student-athlete development, highlighted by additional staff and resources and the renovation of the Brees Academic Performance Center, which opened in March and has expanded nearly seven-fold while featuring meaningfully improved technological assets.
Before returning to his high school alma mater, Stovall worked at Evansville North High School as assistant athletics director (2010-11) and athletics director (2011-13). His other experience includes a stint as a physical education specialist for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation from 2010 to 2011. He completed an internship with the NCAA in the summer of 2010 and was a graduate assistant in marketing & promotions for Ball State Athletics from 2008 to 2010.
Stovall earned his bachelor's degree in sport administration (with a minor in marketing) in 2008 and his master's degree in sport marketing in 2010, both from Ball State. He was a four-year basketball letterwinner and scored 1,383 career points while serving as team captain and being named honorable mention All-Mid-American Conference his senior season. Stovall was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
Stovall (born Dec. 22, 1984) and his wife, Ingrid, have two children, Aaliyah (6) and Jalen (4). Peyton's older brother, Prentice, was a Purdue track & field sprinter and hurdler from 2000 to 2003 and his younger sister, Lanae, was a Ball State track & field hurdler from 2005 to 2009.
