WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three members of the Purdue women's golf team received All-Big Ten recognition Tuesday, led by second-team honoree and 2019 Big Ten Co-Champion Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri. The Boilermakers' have now had at least one all-conference award winner in 23 straight years.
Putri earns her first career all-conference honor, becoming the 66th All-Big Ten pick in program history. She picked a perfect time to win her first collegiate tournament, topping the field at six-under par, 138, after 36 holes at TPC River's Bend over the weekend. Her final-round 67 was a career-low score and is tied for the second-lowest by a Boilermaker at the conference championships.
Sophomore Inez Wanamarta and freshman Danielle du Toit also earned Second-Team All-Big Ten recognition as Wanamarta is on the all-conference list for the second straight season, picking up a first-team honor in 2018. Du Toit is the 11th Purdue rookie to earn All-Big Ten honors and the third in as many years.
Wanamarta has gone back-to-back on the all-conference teams after being named 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Her second-round 69 vaulted her into her fifth top-20 individual finish this season as she tied for 18th at the Big Ten Championships, while her 73.5 stroke average is No. 2 on the team this season.
Du Toit has assaulted the Boilermakers' freshman record book in her first season, already with 14 rounds of par or better this season and four rounds in the 60's. Her 73.53 stroke average is No. 2 all-time for a Purdue rookie and she's finished in the top-20 in five of 11 tournaments this season.
The Boilermakers await word of an NCAA Regional Championship bid that will send them to one-of-four sites for the 2019 postseason. The four regional sites are Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Washington, hosted by the University of Washington; Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, hosted by the University of Oklahoma; Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan, hosted by Michigan State University and Greater Lansing Sports Authority; and Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama, hosted by Auburn University. The NCAA will announce the regional fields tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. ET, live on Golf Channel's Golf Central and streamed live on the Golf Channel website.
