THE TALKING POINTS
1) Purdue is off to a 11-3 start in Big Ten play for the sixth time under head coach Matt Painter. In the previous five seasons that Purdue started at least 11-3, the Boilermakers finished first or second all five seasons, winning the regular-season titles in 2017 and 2010.
2) Matt Painter now owns 313 wins at Purdue, ranking 11th on the Big Ten's all-time wins list and needing three wins to move into the top 10. Tuesday's game marks his 500th career game, owning a 338-161 record. He is still just 48 years old.
3) Purdue is looking for its third straight win in Assembly Hall for the first time ever. The building opened in 1972.
4) Purdue's seniors (Ryan Cline and Grady Eifert) own an 11-3 record against in-state foes, having won 10 of its last 11 games against in-state opponents. The lone losses are to Butler (Dec. 19, 2015), Indiana (Feb. 20, 2016) and Notre Dame (Dec. 15, 2018). Purdue is 4-1 vs. Indiana in that span.
5) Purdue is back in the national rankings for the fourth straight week after falling out for eight weeks. Its No. 15 ranking marks the 15th week ranked in the top 15 over the last 29 Associated Press polls.
6) Purdue needs one win for No. 12 in Big Ten play. It would mark the fifth straight year of at least 12 victories for only the second time ever (1994-98).
7) Purdue continues to excel on the offensive end, ranking fourth nationally in offensive efficiency. Purdue, Duke and North Carolina are the only teams to rank in the top 10 in offensive efficiency the last two seasons.
8) Under Matt Painter, Purdue has been one of the best offensive teams in America. The Boilermakers have ranked in the nation's top 25 in offensive efficiency in six of the last nine seasons (lone years not in top 25: 2014-15, 2013-14, 2012-13).
9) Carsen Edwards ranks seventh nationally in scoring (24.4 PPG). Since the 1992-93 season, just two other Big Ten players (Purdue's Glenn Robinson 2x, Michigan State's Shawn Respert 2x) have averaged at least 24.0 points per game in a season.
10) Ryan Cline has sparked Purdue's recent surge, making 38 of 77 (.494) of his 3-pointers since the calendar flipped to 2019.
