WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's soccer team (7-8-3, 3-6-2) is headed to the Big Ten tournament for the second time in three years. At the eighth seed, the Boilermakers will play the B1G Regular Season Champions and No. 1 seed Wisconsin (13-2-2, 9-0-1).
The quarterfinal will air on the Big Ten Network at 1 p.m. ET, live from the McClimon Track/Soccer Complex in Madison, Wisconsin. Tickets for the game will be available through Wisconsin's ticket office.
On the season, nine Boilermakers have found the back of the net, the most since 2015. The offensive effort is led by junior Hannah Melchiorre, who owns a team-leading four goals and freshman Leanna Rebimbas, who registered four assists.
Purdue is anchored by sophomore keeper Marisa Bova, who played every minute of the regular season. With the Hartland, Wisconsin, native in the net, the Boilermakers produced eight shutouts, tied for the fourth most in program history and the most since 2007. Not only is Bova just the third goalkeeper to register as many shutouts in a season, but the netminder's 0.86 goals against average is the best mark by a Boilermaker keeper in 11 years (since 2008).
The Boilermakers earn the bid after winning the four-way tie-breaker with Indiana, Northwestern and Nebraska. With the quartet sitting at 11 points in the Big Ten standings, Purdue earned the advantage after comparing the results of the tied teams versus each other.
The top eight programs in the Big Ten standings move on to postseason play. All quarterfinal matchups will take place Sunday, Nov. 3 on the campuses of the four highest seeds. Semifinals (Nov. 8) and the championship (Nov. 10) will be hosted at Rutgers.
