WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Three former Boilermaker standouts are on NBA opening-day rosters as the 2019-20 season gets underway.
E'Twaun Moore, Caleb Swanigan and Carsen Edwards will all be courtside on opening day for the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics. The Pelicans opened the season Tuesday while the Kings and Celtics begin their seasons tonight.
Moore is in his ninth season in the league, having played for Boston, Orlando and Chicago in addition to New Orleans. He has scored 4,149 career points in 516 career games with 1,233 career 3-pointers. Now in his fourth season with the Pelicans, Moore has averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 42.8 percent (204 of 477) from 3-point range over the past two seasons.
Swanigan, a 2017 consensus first-team All-American, is entering his third season in the NBA and second with the Kings. He's appeared in 48 career games, averaging 2.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Edwards is a rookie with the Celtics after a sensational career with the Boilermakers. Edwards had an outstanding preseason, averaging around 20 points per game. He scored 30 points in 20 minutes in the Celtics' final preseason game against the Cavs, netting eight 3-pointers in a five-minute span during the third quarter. He netted nine triples that game against the Cavs, which would tie the Celtics' franchise record.
Edwards will become the 37th Boilermaker to appear in an NBA game.
