WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's tennis (5-8, 0-2) will take on No. 24 Michigan (7-4, 3-0) on Friday at noon ET at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Both teams have played four ranked opponents so far this season. The Boilermakers are 1-3 against ranked opponents, boasting a 4-3 win over No. 12 Ole Miss at Ole Miss. The Wolverines hold a 2-2 record against ranked opponents, defeating No. 6 Texas and No. 20 Pepperdine.
Stakes are high as the match consists of five singles rankings and three doubles rankings between the two teams.
Purdue senior Silvia Ambrosio has remained in the singles rankings since the first release Nov. 14, when she broke in at No. 19. (Ambrosio was ranked No. 72 in the preseason.) She currently is ranked No. 33, while her highest ranking was ninth Feb. 6.
The Boilermakers also have a ranked doubles team in Ambrosio and Amina Mukhametshina. The duo broke into the rankings March 5 at No. 77. The seniors moved up the list and now rank No. 53 with an 8-1 record at the No. 1 spot.
Michigan has four ranked singles players: No. 4 Kate Fahey, No. 24 Chiara Lommer, No. 36 Brienne Minor and No. 107 Giulia Pairone. They also bring the potential for one ranked doubles team, No. 73 Kate Fahey and Giulia Pairone or No. 76 Fahey and Brienne Minor.
