Carpenter Named Region Athlete of the Year

Purdue men's cross country standout Jaret Carpenter received the Dan McClimon Award for NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Men's Athlete of the Year.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men's cross country standout Jaret Carpenter received the Dan McClimon Award for NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Men's Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The honor is voted on by member coaches from the region.

Carpenter received the award following Great Lakes All-Region Team recognition and a first-place finish at the NCAA Regional. The Wayzata, Minnesota, native secured the victory with a final stretch push to cross the finish line in 31:09.6 minutes.

With each race this season, Carpenter has steadily improved. In addition to his performance at the NCAA Regional, Carpenter placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships, ninth at Pre-Nationals and 16th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
