WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- For the Boilermakers' lone Saturday game of the season, Purdue women's soccer welcomes rival Indiana to Folk Field for the annual match that decides which team takes home the Golden Boot traveling trophy.
Fans are encouraged to wear black to Folk Field as part of the 7 p.m. Boilermaker Blackout game. Black pom-poms will be distributed to all fans. Another free student shuttle to Folk Field will also be available, beginning its campus loop at 5:30 p.m. Shuttle stops are at the Stewart Center, Third & Jischke, and Purdue West.
Purdue needs a win or a draw to maintain possession of the Golden Boot trophy. A point in the Governor's Cup rivalry series will also be on the line. The Boilermakers have won the Governor's Cup the last three school years and were first on the board this fall after volleyball's home win vs. IU on Sept. 24.
Purdue won back the Golden Boot with its season-ending 2-0 win at Indiana a year ago. Erika Arkans and Maddy Williams scored the goals and goalkeeper Erika Yohn lead the way defensively in the shutout win. It was the Boilermakers' first win in Bloomington since 2009, and the third straight by the road team in the series. In program history, Purdue has more wins against only one other opponent (Northwestern, 14) than the Hoosiers (13).
The Golden Boot was introduced to the series in 2002. Including the Governor's Cup, it is one of five traveling trophies across all sports in the Indiana-Purdue rivalry. Women's basketball, football and volleyball also compete for rivalry trophies with Hoosiers.

The Boilermakers have two games remaining this season and both will be played at Folk Field. Purdue was eliminated from Big Ten Tournament contention Sunday with its loss at No. 16 Penn State coupled with IU's win at Maryland. The Hoosiers (14 points) enter the weekend tied for seventh place in the conference standings with Nebraska. Ohio State (12 points) and Illinois (10) are both chasing Indiana and Nebraska in the race to finish among the top eight and qualify for the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers hold tiebreakers on both OSU and Illinois.
Purdue bounced back from a one-sided loss to Ohio State on Oct. 9 with strong efforts against Maryland and Penn State last week, splitting the two 1-0 finals. Dannah Williams scored the game winner vs. the Terrapins, recording her first collegiate goal. In the process, Purdue won a Big Ten game in 1-0 fashion via a player's first collegiate goal for the first time since October 2009 vs. Michigan (Jessica Warren). Last year, the Boilermakers clinched their first winning record with the Golden Boot victory at Indiana. While Purdue cannot reach the .500 mark this year, keeping possession of the Golden Boot would certainly by a worthy consolation to the program's large senior class.
Meanwhile, the Hoosiers have enjoyed a bounce-back campaign this fall after becoming the first Big Ten team to go winless (0-7-4) in conference play since 2004 a year ago. Indiana managed to score the last goal in high-scoring 3-2 wins vs. Wisconsin and Ohio State. But perhaps more important were the consecutive draws the Hoosiers were able to grind out at home against nationally ranked Penn State and Rutgers the first week of October. Those four results could be what ultimately earns IU a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
Indiana's goal scoring has been remarkably balanced this season. Twelve different players have teamed up to account for the Hoosiers' 21 goals. Ten players have registered at least 10 shots, yet no one has at least 10 shots on goal. Indiana has also managed to compile a .500 record despite a minus-four goal differential and a minus-84 disadvantage in the season-long shot count. Mykayla Brown leads the way with four goals, three proving to be game winners. Freshman goalkeeper Sara L'Hommedieu has started all but one game and leads the Big Ten with 79 saves (4.9 per game).
Purdue's season finale is Wednesday at 7 p.m. vs. Michigan State, which has also been eliminated from Big Ten Tournament contention.
