WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was named the men's Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Enekwechi set school and facility records on his way to winning the weight throw at the Fred Wilt Invitational.

Enekwechi broke his own school record by one foot, one and three quarter inches and shattered his own facility record by three feet, six inches. His mark of 24.39m (80-0.25) ranks No. 2 in the world, NCAA and conference this season, and second in NCAA Division I history. It is just 3.25 inches shy of the division I record. Enekwechi is the only thrower in in NCAA Division I history to throw 80 feet or more in the weight throw, while also competing in another event. Enekwechi finished second in the shot put with a throw of 18.72m (61-5.00) on Saturday.

The award is Enekwechi's third of the season, after also winning on Dec. 15 and Jan. 12. He has now picked up weekly honors from the Big Ten seven times in his career.

The Boilermakers have one final tune-up this weekend prior to the Big Ten Championships. Purdue will head to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday.
