WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team will open the door on the 2015 spring campaign by hosting the Purdue Invite Friday - Sunday on the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center. The four-team event features the 42nd-ranked Boilermakers, No. 65 Denver, No. 46 (tie) DePaul and Drake. All three days of competition will begin with doubles at 9 a.m. ET.
Two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles will be contested Friday and Saturday. One round of doubles and then a round of singles are on the docket for Sunday.
A trio of nationally ranked singles players are slated to be in action at the Purdue Invite, with two representing the Old Gold & Black. Andjela Djokovic and Daniela Vidal were included in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) first regular season rankings released Jan. 6 at Nos. 105 and 118, respectively. It is the first time in both of their careers that they have garnered national singles ranking.
Djokovic blazed through the fall season, winning her first 11 matches en route to an 11-1 record. Vidal posted a 10-4 mark, highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
DePaul brings in the No. 93 singles player, rookie Patricia Lancranjan. The Blue Demon senior tandem of Jasmin Kling and Patricia Fargas starts the regular season ranked 52nd.
