ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Courtney Sims' tip-in with 1.4 seconds left lifted Michigan to a 64-63 win over Purdue on Saturday.
After Brandon McKnight's mid-range jumper gave the Boilermakers the lead with less than 10 seconds to go, Daniel Horton missed a shot in the lane. Sims caught the airball, missed a putback and leaped again to tip the ball in to give the Wolverines their third victory in four games.
Horton scored 19 and Sims had 11 points and 15 rebounds for Michigan (13-6, 4-4 Big Ten). Bernard Robinson added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
David Teague led Purdue (15-7, 5-4) with 14 points. McKnight, Brett Buscher and Melvin Buckley each scored 10 for the Boilermakers, who had won five of seven.
Michigan went on a 19-4 run early in the second half and had a 16-point lead before going cold.
The Wolverines went without a field goal for nearly 11 minutes as their cushion turned into a tie at 57 with two minutes left.
Horton made a 3-pointer and a runner on consecutive possessions to give Michigan a 62-59 lead with just under a minute left.
Sims and Horton missed free throws to give Purdue a chance to take the lead again on McKnight's shot. Horton deflected Purdue's long pass at the end of the game to prevent a shot at the buzzer.
Purdue was without Kenneth Lowe, its leading scorer and best defender, for the third straight game. Lowe sprained his left elbow on Jan. 27 in a loss at Indiana.
The Boilermakers' 13-2 run gave them a four-point lead midway through the first half. Michigan answered with an 11-1 run to go ahead 26-20 before leading 35-30 at halftime.
