WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's swimming and diving team defeated both Miami (Ohio) and Iowa on Friday, at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette. The Old Gold and Black defeated the Miami RedHawks 239-60. The Boilermakers defeated the Hawkeyes 188.5-110.5. With the sweep of both opponents, Purdue improves to 2-0-1 (1-0 Big Ten).
The Boilermakers tallied 10 first-place finishes en route to their two victories, with senior Lindsay Lange, junior Autumn Sample and freshman Erica Chandler leading the way with two individual victories apiece.
The Old Gold and Black began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.66. The team of Dolansky, Lange, senior Patricia Finnerty and senior Kim Paradeise finished with their second-best time of the year.
In the 400 free relay, the Boilermakers finished second with a time of 3:30.92 with the team of sophomore Christine Leupold, Paradeise, sophomore Katie Seleskie and Chandler.
Tallying first place finishes in the freestyle events were Chandler in the 1,000, sophomore Tracy Duchac in the 50 and Chandler in the 500.
Dolansky was the first-place finisher in the 100 backstroke, while Lange finished first in both the 100 and the 200 breaststroke. Junior Autumn Sample finished first in the 100 and 200 butterfly and junior Jenni Bean finished first in the 400 individual medley.
On the diving boards, freshman Carrie McCambridge led the way for the Old Gold and Black once again, bringing home a second-place finish on the 1-meter board and a first-place finish on the 3-meter. Senior Heather Bachman finished fourth on the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter board, while senior Carrie Dougherty finished seventh on the 1-meter and sixth on the 3-meter board. Freshman Amber Kerns finished eighth on both the 1- and 3-meter board.
The Old Gold and Black will return to the water next weekend, when they host Northwestern and Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m., at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
