WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head coach Dave Shondell and the Purdue volleyball program are pleased to announce Lafayette native and transfer Emily Brown will join the team effective immediately.
Brown, a 5'6" defensive specialist spent her first two seasons with Missouri and is set to join Purdue for the spring semester to finish out her sophomore year. The Lafayette, Indiana, native will wear the number 11 jersey.
"With over 75 percent of our passing and digging totals graduating, it is encouraging to hit paydirt with a local ball-control player who dreamed of returning home," said Shondell. "Emily has competed in one of the nation's best conferences for the past two years. She will bring discipline, desire, and another strong work-ethic to our program. In the current climate of college athletics, teams must continually find ways to solidify their rosters."
Brown, a staple of Missouri's back row during her career as a Tiger, averaged 3.54 digs per set on her way to totaling 329 digs this fall. Over the fall campaign, Brown tallied 20 double-digit dig matches, including a career-high 25 digs in Missouri's four-set victory vs. South Dakota on September 5. Meanwhile, as a freshman, Brown started all 24 matches and was one of just three players in the Southeastern Conference to eclipse 300 digs in 2020.
Her experience will add to Purdue's strong tradition of defensive excellence, joining the Boilermakers which includes Maddie Schermerhorn and Ali Hornung after Purdue said farewell to anchors Jena Otec and Marissa Hornung; a pair finishing their careers as two of Purdue's top-four all-time dig leaders.
Brown is a graduate of McCutcheon High School, where she was named a 2019 Prep Volleyball Senior Aces and Defensive Dandies honoree.
