WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Network announced its 2021-22 television schedule Tuesday, unveiling four dates for the Purdue wrestling team on the linear network. Three of the Boilermakers' four road duals will be televised, in addition to their home contest on January 23 as part of a special event in Mackey Arena.
The BTN will televise 26 wrestling duals this season, and Purdue's four duals are the most-ever for the Boilermakers. In 2021, wrestling had the third-highest viewership of and sport on the BTN, ranking only behind football and men's basketball.
The Boilermakers will make their 2022 television debut at preseason No. 1 and defending NCAA Champion Iowa, heading to Iowa City on Sunday, Jan. 9 after opening the Big Ten schedule on Friday at Nebraska. Time for the dual is yet to be announced, and will be based on the pending NFL Playoff schedule.
Purdue and the BTN will produce a first-ever event of its kind on Jan. 23, as the Boilermakers' seventh-ranked men's basketball team and the top-25 ranked wrestling squad will host "Hoops & Headlocks", a doubleheader event in Mackey Arena, which will all air live on the network. Purdue men's basketball will host Northwestern for a 1 p.m. ET start in front of an already-sold out Mackey crowd, which will be encouraged to remain in their seats for a 4 p.m. start for Boilermaker wrestling against Wisconsin. Promotional details for the event are still being finalized and will be released at a future date.
The Boilermakers' annual intrastate rivalry dual against Indiana is slated for noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Wilkinson Hall in Bloomington, in addition to their regular season finale at Northwestern, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 p.m.
Purdue's remaining four duals will air on BTN+ and start times will be announced by the host institutions at their discretion.
The Boilermakers are scheduled to host their first event of the year Friday, Oct. 29, opening the doors to Holloway Gymnasium for the preseason wrestle offs. Purdue's first regular season contest is Saturday, Nov. 6, at Drexel, scheduled for a noon start against the Dragons.
