Utah 3, Purdue 1
The Boilermakers stranded three runners in scoring position and were the victim of two unlucky second chances in a 3-1 loss to Utah on Saturday afternoon.

Purdue managed a run on five hits, including two each by senior Katie Harrison and junior Kristen Hoppman.

Katie Donovan (8-5) went the distance for Utah, striking out eight, while freshman Maddie Damon (3-4) threw the complete game for Purdue.

Utah put a runner on third in the first inning, capitalizing on a leadoff walk, but stranded the runner with a fly ball.

Freshman Mallory Baker registered the game's first hit, dropping a double into the right center gap to lead off the second inning, but the Boilermakers could not bring her around to score.

Junior Kristen Hoppman gave Purdue a baserunner in the third with a two-out single to left, but a fly ball left her on base.

The Utes scored first with a two-run shot by Maddie Roth in the bottom of the third. The home run followed an illegal pitch call, which turned a ground out into an eventual walk. A double play later in the inning erased a single.

Harrison tapped a double to left center to start the fourth. A sacrifice bunt by Baker moved pinch runner Sydney Pencek to third, but a pop up and strikeout kept Purdue off the scoreboard.

Another illegal pitch overturned a would-be ground out in the fifth, leading to an eventual walk and a leadoff runner for the Utes. Another walk and a sacrifice bunt put two in scoring position, setting up an RBI single through the left side, which made it 3-0. An infield grounder prevented further damage.

The Boilermakers broke through with a run on two hits and an error in the sixth. Hoppman led off with a single to center field, but was out on a fielder's choice which put senior Mary Gooding on the following play. Gooding went to third as the Utes' attempt to turn a double play resulted in a wild throw. A passed ball pushed her to third, setting the table for Harrison's RBI single to left. Pinch runner Maya Hughes went to second on an infield grounder, but was left stranded by a fly ball.

Utah tallied two hits in the sixth, but the Boilermaker defense held.

A strikeout, a foul fly ball and a fly out kept Purdue from mounting a seventh-inning rally.

Purdue 3, No. 25 UCF 2
The Boilermakers scored two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth and held on for 3-2 victory over No. 25 UCF Saturday night.

Purdue scored its three runs on three hits, while allowing UCF two runs on four hits and an error. Senior Lilly Fecho struck out seven in the complete-game victory, while Jamie Ujvari (6-1) was saddled with the loss after starting the game for the Knights.

The Boilermakers tallied the first hit of the game as junior Kristen Hoppman led off with a single up the middle, but a fly out and two strikeouts left her stranded.

The Knights put two on in the first with a single and a fielder's choice, but a pop up and two Fecho K's erased the threat.

Purdue loaded the bases to start the fourth as senior Mary Gooding walked, senior Katie Harrison was hit by a pitch and freshman Mallory Baker earned a four-pitch free pass. Freshman Lauren Stewart plated two runs with a double to left prompting a UCF pitching change. The Boilermakers filled the bases again as senior CJ Parsons drew a two-out walk, but could not add to the 2-0 lead.

A leadoff double in the UCF fourth ended a stretch of nine straight outs for the Purdue defense. A hit batsman put a second runner on, but a fielder's choice play at third and a pop up kept the Knights off the scoreboard.

An error gave the Knights a base runner in the fifth, but the Boilermakers caught her stealing for the inning's second out. A strikeout nullified a two-out single.

An RBI double by senior Paris Andrew put the Boilermakers up 3-0 in the sixth. The hit plated pinch runner Maya Hughes from second. Hughes had swiped second after coming in to run for Baker who drew a leadoff walk.

A single, a hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases for UCF with one out in the sixth. A sacrifice fly snapped the Boilermaker shutout bid. A wild pitch scored a second run. A walk put runners at the corners but Fecho issued her eighth strikeout to escape further damage.

The Boilermaker defense forced a ground out and two fly outs to clinch the upset win.
