Final Stats

LAFAYETTE, La. - Sophomore Ashley DiDomenico tossed more than 150 pitches, while throwing a school-record 12 innings in a complete game victory over Iowa State Sunday morning. The Boilermakers won the contest 7-6 as DiDomenico surpassed Deana Jackson and Sheryl Scheve's single-game record of 10 innings pitched.

Purdue put up four runs on three hits in the top of the 12th to pull away from the Cyclones. Freshman Ashley Barr (Meridian, Idaho) was placed on second to start the inning due to the international tie breaker rule. She then went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Katie Mitchell (Crown Point, Ind.) two-out triple to the right field corner. A double by senior DaQueta Johnson (Ontario, Calif.) kept the rally going, sending Mitchell home. Sophomore Candace Curtis (Danville, Calif.) followed with her first career home run, a shot to left center to put the Boilermakers up 7-3. A strikeout brought up the Cyclones one final time.

Iowa State would not go down quietly, using a fly ball and a double to plate their runner from second. A Katie Reichling two-run shot to right made it a 7-6 game, but a ground out two plays later sealed the Boilermaker victory.

The Boilermakers scored seven runs on 10 hits and two ISU errors, while the Cyclones managed six runs on 12 hits and five Purdue miscues. Senior Catherine Zaworski (Prospect Heights, Ill.) led the Boilermaker hitters with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while sophomore Kelly Miller (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Mitchell also tallied multiple hits.

DiDomenico (Youngstown, Ohio) struck out five and allowed just three earned runs in the complete game victory, which moved her to 2-2 on the season. Relief pitcher Charissa Carlin fell to 0-2 on the season after pitching six innings in the contest.

The Boilermakers put a runner on second in both of the first two innings, but could not take advantage of the RBI opportunity.

The Cyclones combined two hits and a sacrifice fly for a run in the third. Kelsey Kidwell singled and advanced to third on a ground ball and an infield single, before scoring on an Ashley Killeen sacrifice fly.

Purdue had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth, but ISU kept them off the scoreboard. Senior Catherine Zaworski (Prospect Heights, Ill.) dove into first for a single to get things started. A bunt single by sophomore Kelly Miller (Indianapolis, Ind.) and a throwing error by the pitcher put both in scoring position. A fielder's choice put Barr on base, setting the table for junior Ashley Hall (Noblesville, Ind.). Hall reached on a fielder's choice as Zaworski was forced out in a close play at the plate. A strikeout left three stranded.

The Boilermakers found their bats in the sixth inning, putting up two runs on three hits. Johnson was hit by a pitch, then pinch runner Amy Butcher (Decatur, Ind.) was sacrificed over to second before scoring on a single to short center field by freshman Jenna Alexander (Rancho Murieta, Calif.). Zaworski doubled up the left line to plate pinch runner Christina Trauger (Santa Rosa, Calif.) from first. Miller followed with a double to left, but Zaworski had to stop at third on the play. A pop up kept the Boilermakers from adding to their 2-1 lead.

Iowa State took advantage of a Purdue fielding miscue in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs and a runner on second base, the shortstop misfielded a ground ball, which allowed Fallon Johnson to score from second. A fly ball to left sent the game to extra innings.

Both teams went down in order in the eighth.

Zaworski looped a single into short left center to start the Purdue half of the ninth. A ground ball moved her to second, before she was joined on base by Hall, who drew a two-out walk. A line drive to the shortstop kept the Boilermakers off the scoreboard.

As the 10th inning began, the international tie breaker rule went into effect, placing a runner on second base to begin the stanza. Pinch runner Traci Lippold took the base for the Boilermakers, then moved to second on a bunt single by Mitchell, before scoring on a two-out wild pitch.

The Cyclones answered with a run on two hits in the bottom of the inning. Courtney Wray was placed on second to start the inning, then went to third on a ground ball before scoring on an Alex Johnson single to right field. A strikeout and fielder's choice left two on to wrap up the stanza.

Both teams laid down sacrifices to move their runners to third in the 11th, but were unable to score.

Purdue (2-8) returns to action on Friday when it takes on Syracuse to open the Golden Panther Invitational in Miami, Fla.
