WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue softball newcomer Ashlynn Campbell was named to Softball America's Freshman Watch List.
The utility player ranked first in the nation in hits (107) and second in the nation in both runs scored (90) and stolen bases (78) during her senior season, marks that also led every player in her home state of Alabama. Moreover, Campbell recorded a .534 batting average on her way to helping the Wetumpka High School to a Class 6A state championship title in 2023 with a 56-6-1 record while playing shortstop.
Campbell was named an All-American in both 2023 and 2022 by Extra Inning Softball.
Her senior campaign efforts also led to National Player of the Week status by Extra Inning Softball on March 28, 2023 after going 16-for 27 (a .593 batting average) and posted a .607 on-base % to go along with 14 runs scored, nine RBI and seven stolen bases.
As a sophomore and junior at Wetumpka High School, Campbell set school records for batting average (.538), on-base % (.601), hits (86), runs (75) and stolen bases (58).
Campbell is one of four Big Ten freshmen to make the list, joined by Jenissa Conway (Michigan), Emmerson Cope (Nebraska) and Michela Barbanente (Penn State).
Campbell and the Boilermaker softball team are less than two weeks away from opening day. The program, led by first year head coach Maggie Frezzotti will begin the season Friday, February 9 in Athens, Georgia for the Red and Black Showcase where they will take on Murray State, South Dakota and No. 6 Georgia during the three-day tournament.
