TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Purdue Women's Golf entered round two of the Florida State Match Up in sixth place and remained there following play Saturday afternoon. Dealing with a 90-minute weather delay early in the round, the Boilermakers shot 299 (+11) to improve upon their opening round despite staying in the middle of the pack.
Purdue continued to lead the field in par-5 scoring. After playing the holes 6-under in the first round, the Boilermakers were in red figures (-1) again on Saturday to move to 7-under on the par 5s through 36 holes. However, No. 12 Florida State grew a lead on its home course, shooting 3-under (285) as a team to build a 15-shot advantage over second-place Augusta heading into the final round.
Kan Bunnabodee fired a 73 (+1) to pace Purdue, her lowest round of the season. It marked the first time this spring that the 2022 First Team All-B1G golfer led the team in scoring after she missed the fall due to injury. The senior bookended her round with birdies, while adding another one at the par-5 14th. While the Boilermakers stayed in sixth as a team, Bunnabodee vaulted up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 13th.
Ashley Kozlowski and Momo Sugiyama added rounds of 74 (+2), just behind Bunnabodee. Kozlowski began the day tied for 19th, and she stayed there following Saturday's play with a 37 on both sides of the course. Her front nine featured eight pars and a bogey before starting the back with a birdie on the par-4 10th. After bogeying No. 13, Kozlowski got the stroke back with a birdie on No. 16 to get to even par on her round. However, she suffered a double bogey on the final hole.
Sugiyama bounced back from a double bogey to start her day, playing the final 17 holes level par. The sophomore made three birdies through a five-hole stretch on the front side before rattling off 10 straight pars. She sits tied for 22nd at 7-over alongside teammate Danielle du Toit, who contributed to the team score with a 78 (+6).
The Boilermakers find themselves within five shots of match up partner Kent State (+18) and only three strokes behind Tulane (+20) with 18 holes remaining. Purdue tees off alongside the Golden Flashes and Green Wave for the final round Sunday morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET.
