WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 16 Purdue baseball continues midweek play with the front ends of its home-and-home series vs. UIC and Indiana State, hosting the Flames on Tuesday and visiting Terre Haute on Wednesday.

First pitch Tuesday at Alexander Field is set for 4 p.m. ET. It's also a planned 4 p.m. first pitch Wednesday at Indiana State's Bob Warn Field. The return matchups with this week's non-conference opponents are set for April 6 (vs. ISU) and April 19 (at UIC).

The Boilermakers moved up to No. 16 in this week's Collegiate Baseball rankings. They also debuted at No. 29 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) weekly poll. Purdue had not been ranked in the NCBWA poll since the end of the 2012 season.

Purdue and UIC squared off 11 times from 2009 to 2014 before the midweek series went into a hiatus. Longtime UIC assistant Sean McDermott took over as the Flames head coach in June. The Boilermakers will get their first look at UIC's Curtis Granderson Stadium, which officially opened two weeks after Purdue's last visit in April 2014, next month.

Wednesday at Indiana State will be just the third true road game of the season for the Boilermakers. The Sycamores earned another at-large bid to an NCAA Regional last season, their third since 2012 as well as an auto-bid in 2019 as the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champion. Indiana State has wins vs. BYU, Minnesota (2), Michigan, Southeast Missouri (2), Kansas (2) and Memphis (2) during a strong non-conference showing this year. ISU is 6-1 at home this season.

UIC and Indiana State become conference rivals for the 2022-23 school year as UIC moves from the Horizon League to the MVC.

The Boilermakers have consecutive five-game weeks on their schedule. Beginning Tuesday, they're slated to play 10 games over the next 13 days. It's 14 games in 19 days through Saturday, April 16 before Purdue is off for Easter. Another five-game week begins April 19 with the rematch vs. UIC.
