WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue Baseball's 2022 home schedule features a team-record 28 dates and those games will be played amidst an enhanced fan experience thanks to the installation of a 1,385-square foot Daktronics videoboard, which is set to be the final piece of the puzzle at award-winning Alexander Field.

The new videoboard measures 44.4 feet wide by 31.2 feet tall and features a pixel pitch of 10 millimeters, making it the largest and most technically advanced videoboard for college baseball in the state of Indiana. The 10MM pixel pitch is among the latest upgrades on technology and resolution.

Purdue Athletics partnered with consultant Anthony James Partners for the installation of the videoboard next to the Boilermakers' bullpen beyond the left field fence, with construction handled by Purdue University. The project was made possible via the generous donations of numerous program alumni and John Purdue Club members.

"From the playing surface to the fan support to the player development amenities, Alexander Field provides our program with everything a coach could hope for," head coach Greg Goff said. "Adding a videoboard to the stadium will really help take the gameday atmosphere and fanfare to the next level. We're ever grateful to the Alexander Family for its lead gift in the construction of the field. Now we've had alumni and numerous supporters of the program step up in helping us add the videoboard in left field. We're thankful for their generosity."

"We're very grateful for the passionate fans and John Purdue Club members, many of whom were former Boilermaker student-athletes, who stepped up to help us provide state-of-the-art videoboards for our baseball and softball facilities," said vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski. "These enhancements will further elevate the environment and experience at Purdue baseball and softball games."

Alexander Field opened in the fall of 2012 and hosted its first regular-season game in March 2013. In the summer of 2019, NCAA.com recognized Alexander among its list of the 16 best college baseball stadiums in the country. It has also been honored among Pioneer Athletics' Fields of Excellence award winners for its playing surface.

The facility features a natural grass surface, luxury suites, clubhouse with indoor amenities for the players, oversized dugouts for both teams and the ability to expand upon its traditional 2,000-seat capacity. Until this year, the stadium featured a traditional nine-inning scoreboard similar to its predecessor, Lambert Field.

"From the players' perspective, this new videoboard reinforces the belief that Purdue is committed to moving our program forward," said Jackson Smeltz, a redshirt junior pitcher. "It's more evidence that the John Purdue Club, administration, coaches and staff all support us. I already feel like Alexander Field is the best ballpark in the Big Ten. The addition of this videoboard makes it one of the best in the country."

"In my years at Purdue, the fans at Alexander are always supporting us and passionate about our success," adds Tyler Powers, a fifth-year infielder. "We not only want to enhance our experience, but the experience of the fans as well. From advanced stats to player personalities to enjoyable music, I believe the multimedia presentation our new videoboard provides will truly excite our fans. Our team and support staff are ecstatic to unveil the videoboard and can't wait to see our fans at Alexander this year."

Purdue's home opener is Friday, March 11 and the Boilermakers have seven home weekends on their schedule this spring.
