Boilermakers Headed to UK and IU Meets

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team travels to a pair of meets this weekend, as the sprinters, jumpers and throwers compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky, and the distance runners are at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana, from January 28-29.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue track & field team travels to a pair of meets this weekend, as the sprinters, jumpers and throwers compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky, and the distance runners are at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana, from January 28-29.
 
The Rod McCravy Memorial begins on Friday with the heptathlon at 10:45 a.m. ET, field events at 1 p.m. and running events at 4 p.m. The last event of the day is at 6:40 p.m. Action on Saturday at Nutter Field House commences with the final three heptathlon events at 9:30 a.m., field events at 10 a.m. and running events at noon. Purdue's final race is at 3:10 p.m.
 
The Boilermakers will compete in two events on Friday at the Indiana Relays, at 6:30 and 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Boilermakers' first race at Gladstein Fieldhouse is at 11:30 a.m. and their fifth and final event is at 1:30 p.m.

Purdue will compete against 16 other teams at UK, including host-Kentucky and Big Ten foes Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin. At IU, the field in the distance races includes host-Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Three Boilermakers appear in the season's first national TFRI rankings, unveiled this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Freshman Praise Aniamaka is No. 13 in the triple jump, senior Jessica Bray is No. 19 in the pole vault and senior Johnny Vanos is No. 23 in the weight throw.
 
The Boilermakers will face five top-25 women's teams and two top-25 men's teams this weekend in Lexington. The women's top-25 includes No. 3 Kentucky, No. 5 Florida, No. 11 Ohio State, No. 15 Baylor and No. 23 Minnesota, while the women's rankings has No. 2 Kentucky and No. 19 Florida.
 
LAST TIME OUT: LARRY WIECZOREK INVITATIONAL
Purdue won four events and notched three top-10 marks in program history at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational last weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. At their first two-day meet of the season, the Boilermakers added four runner-up finishes and six third-place showings. The men were second and the women fourth in the final team standings.
 
Juniors Annamaria Leszczynska (open 400m) and Kerris Roberts (200m) and sophomores Gage Ernsberger (high jump) Deborah Obadofin (triple jump) all won their events. Additionally, fifth-year senior Kelly Cook Jr. improved his eighth-best weight throw mark in school history, junior Saran Kouyeth entered the record books at No. 8 in the 60m and sophomore Nikia Smith tallied the 10th-fastest 60m hurdles time in program history.

A LOOK BACK AT PURDUE'S LAST TRIP TO LEXINGTON
Purdue returns to the Rod McCravy Memorial for the first time since 2020. Current Boilermakers Bray, Roberts and Vanos notched three of the team's five top-10 marks in school history, and Bray's performance in the pole vault included a second-place finish.
