WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Following back-to-back five set victories for Purdue last weekend, sophomore Marissa Hornung was recognized as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The honor marks her second consecutive week of conference recognition, making her the first Boilermaker in program history to receive back-to-back defensive accolades.
The libero earned 46 digs for 4.60 digs per set and added five assists, while being perfect on all receptions through 58 attempts in Purdue's victories over then-No.22 Michigan and Michigan State. Her performance was highlighted by a career-best 29 digs against Michigan. The Indiana native has also not committed a reception error in Purdue's last five matches.
With the pair of wins Purdue concluded the regular season with 14 Big Ten victories, the program's most since 2011 (16). The Boilermakers will look to keep its momentum going in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Purdue is set to begin its 21st post season appearance with a 7 p.m. ET match against Wright State on Friday, Dec. 3 at Holloway Gymnasium.
