Texas Relays Meet Central / Texas Relays Schedule
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The track & field teams hit the road for three different meets this week. The majority of the squad will head to Austin, Texas, for the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum, while another group will also make the trip to Texas and compete at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational. Distance runners Emma Benner, Jaret Carpenter and Kiara McIntosh will head to California for the Stanford Invitational.
Forty-eight Purdue student-athletes will head to Texas. The Boilermakers will be among a record 7,740 athletes accepted into the meet from nearly 200 colleges. Nearly two dozen athletes scheduled to compete in the meet have competed in at least one Olympic Games, including Purdue sprinter Carmiesha Cox. The Boilermakers will compete Thursday through Saturday.
Three Boilermakers who currently rank third in the NCAA are scheduled to compete at the Texas Relays. Symone Black is third in the women's 400-meter hurdles, Eric Blackman is third in the men's high jump and Anaquan Peterson is third in the men's triple jump. Black will have the opportunity to compete against a loaded field, including Texas' Ariel Jones who is currently fifth in the NCAA and a two-time defending Big 12 champion in the event. Among those Peterson will compete against is David Oluwadara of Boston University, who ranks fifth in the NCAA this season and was a second team All-American in the indoor event earlier this month.
Devynne Charlton is scheduled to compete in her first outdoor meet since the 2015 NCAA Championships. She is scheduled to compete in the 100m hurdles and will be up against UTEP's Tobi Amusan, who is currently No. 1 in the NCAA and was the national runner-up a year ago.
The women's 4x400m relay team has won the Texas Relays each of the last two years. The Boilermakers will bring a pool that includes Black, Cox, Brionna Thomas, Chloe Abbott, Myia Dorsey, Jahneya Mitchell and Samara Miller. The Boilermakers ran the 4x4 at the UTSA Invitational two weeks ago and their time of 3:40.48 currently ranks 14th in the country.
The meet will be live streamed for Longhorn Network and is available on the ESPN App/WatchESPN. Links for each day are posted on the schedule on PurdueSports.com. A live results link is also available on the schedule. Up-to-date results will be posted on Twitter @PurdueTrackXC.
