BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 dual match to No. 43 Indiana on the IU Varsity Tennis Courts Wednesday. The Boilermakers (4-17, 0-9 B1G ) took the first doubles match in the best of three battle, but were denied in the other two matches and three consecutive singles wins clinched the dual victory for the Hoosiers (16-9, 5-4 B1G).
Arthur Dobradin and Lucas Dages set the stage for Purdue to be able to take the doubles point by winning at No. 2. The duo picked up their first win together, cruising past Chris Essick and Stefan Lugonjic, 8-2.
At No. 3, Indiana's Sven Lalic and Raheel Manji evened the scales with an 8-4 decision of Matt Bouggy and Mateus Silva. The point rested at the top of the lineup, where Purdue's Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla were deadlocked at 5-5 with Daniel Bednarczyk and Sam Monette. Games were exchanged and the match went into the breaker, where the Hoosier duo took control and won, 7-2.
Mateus Silva and Dages were able to take the first set at singles Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, but straight-set victories were registered by Indiana at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 to clinch the match.
Wednesday's match was the first of three for the Boilermakers this week. They return home to the Schwartz Tennis Center to host Michigan State Friday at 5 p.m. ET, and on Sunday they will be the first of a Purdue tennis doubleheader, taking on Michigan at 10 a.m. in their home finale. The Purdue women's tennis team follows at 1 p.m. against Wisconsin.
