Student-athletes are permitted to earn income through legitimate employment opportunities. Student-athletes must register their employment with the Athletics Compliance Office prior to starting employment.

NCAA Rules:

• Be paid for work you actually perform
• Be paid for the number of hours actually worked
• Be paid at a rate commensurate with the going rate for similar services in the area.
• May NOT be paid for your reputation as an Purdue student-athlete
• May NOT appear in advertisements or promotions for employer
• May NOT receive "special" treatment or work-related benefits (e.g., transportation to work) unless the same benefits are available equally to all employees or class of employees.

Fee-for-lesson Employment

NCAA rules permit a student-athlete to get paid for teaching or coaching on a fee-for-lesson basis, provided the following conditions are satisfied:

• Register the job with the Compliance Office
• May NOT use institutional facilities to provide the lesson
• May NOT provide a playing lesson; the student-athlete must provide actual skill instruction
• Compensation must be paid by the lesson recipient or the recipient's family and not another outside individual or entity.
• Payment must be at the going rate for such services in the area.
• Student-athlete may NOT use his or her name in promoting or advertising the lesson.
