COLUMBUS, Ohio – Purdue Women's Swimming & Diving posted a trio of top-10 times in team history and repeated as the winner of the exhibition team diving event Wednesday on the opening night of the Big Ten Championships.

Adele Sands led off the 800 freestyle relay with a 200 split of 1:46.33, a lifetime best that moved her into seventh place in program history. She was just 0.11 hundredths shy of the Purdue freshman record that has stood since 2015. Sands' time was team season best and the top split on the relay Wednesday. It was also an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut).

Sophie McAfee, Avery Worobel and Daryn Wright teamed up for the victory in team diving, the same trio that was victorious in the event at the Purdue Invitational in November. McAfee and Wright also helped the Boilermakers win the event at Big Tens a year ago. In the six-dive event, McAfee and Worobel executed one dive on both springboards and Wright took the lead with the two dives from 10-meter.

Purdue's 200 medley relay team of Abby Marcukaitis, Masy Folcik, Hannah Hill and Lara Phipps enjoyed a time drop of 1.05 seconds while registering the third-fastest time in team history at 1:38.13. It was the program's fastest time in the event since setting the team record at the 2019 Big Ten Championships. Folcik's 50 breaststroke split of 27.42 was a lifetime best.

Sands teamed up with Kate Mouser, Caitlin Hurley and Reagan Mattice on the 800 free relay, with the group posting a time of 7:09.44 to move into 10th place in team history. It was Purdue's fastest time in the event since the 2020 Big Ten Championships.

The Big Ten Championships at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion continue Thursday with swimming prelims at 10 a.m. ET, diving prelims at noon and the finals session at 5 p.m.
