WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 25 Purdue Wrestling will travel east to Columbus, Ohio, to face No. 4 Ohio State in a Big Ten Conference dual Sunday afternoon.
The matinee meet in Covelli Center is set for 1 p.m. ET with the broadcast streaming live on B1G+.
The Boilermakers (8-2, 1-1 B1G) are seeking their first win over the Buckeyes (10-0, 2-0 B1G) since Feb. 10, 2006, when Purdue won 19-15 in West Lafayette. Ohio State leads the all-time series 55-25-6.
In what is sure to be a star-studded throwdown, as many as 16 nationally ranked wrestlers could compete on Sunday, including nine from Ohio State and seven from Purdue. RANKED MATCHUPS PREVIEW No. 1 Matt Ramos will be among those challenged by a highly ranked opponent when he faces No. 11 Brendan McCrone at 125 lbs. Undefeated at 19-0, seven of Ramos' wins have come against ranked opponents.
Ramos prevailed over McCrone in a close 4-3 decision the first time they met at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
No. 27 Greyson Clark will have his hands full with No. 1 Jesse Mendez in the 141-pound class. It will mark sophomore Clark's first bout against the reigning national champion originally from Crown Point, Indiana.
In what figures to be the third ranked match of the day, No. 7 Joey Blaze will grapple with No. 17 Sammy Sasso. Blaze enters the bout at 2-0 in the Big Ten following his major decision against Indiana on Friday night.
No. 33 Stoney Buell is expected to wrestle No. 9 Paddy Gallagher, looking for his first ranked win of the season. No. 25 Brody Baumann will look to bounce back with a big win over No. 6 Carson Kharchla.
Though he has not wrestled since CKLV, No. 21 James Rowley is in the mix to return in Columbus. If so, he would square off with No. 19 Ryder Rogotzke. LAST TIME OUT The Boilermakers suffered their first conference loss to Indiana on Friday night, dropping a 25-11 contest in Mackey Arena.
Ramos and Blaze each notched 11-2 major decisions while Isaac Ruble impressed in a fast-paced 12-5 decision.
Trailing 11-8 at the intermission, the Hoosiers went on to win the final five matches, with four of them coming via close decisions. PROJECTED LINEUPS Purdue
