WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Six Purdue student-athletes earned spots on the 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, which were announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

Purdue men's golf, women's golf and wrestling were the eligible programs under the CSC at-large category.

Jasmine Kahler, Natasha Kiel and Momo Sugiyama represent Purdue women's golf on the prestigious scholar list.

On the men's side, golfer Sam Easterbrook and wrestlers Joey Blaze and Hayden Filipovich were also recipients of the honor.

Additionally, Sugiyama and Blaze have been named finalists for CSC Academic All-America recognition. First-, second- and third-team CSC Academic All-Americans will be announced on Tuesday, July 8 for the women and Wednesday, July 9 for the men.

To be considered for a CSC Academic All-District Team, nominees must have met the following criteria:
  • Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students.
  • Student-athletes who have graduated from their own institution during the current academic year and are not competing in athletics at another institution at the time of nomination are eligible.
  • An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), while a graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don't have an established graduate GPA.
  • Each nominee must have also competed in a certain number of games/matches/tournaments this year, depending on the sport.
Sugiyama finished her career ranked second in program history in career stroke average (73.09), second in rounds in the 60s (12) and fifth in even or under par rounds (46). The two-time All-Big Ten honoree led the team in stroke average all three years as a Boilermaker, cracking the lineup for all 39 tournaments over the past three seasons. As a senior, Sugiyama paced Purdue in six different tournaments throughout the season, a team best, including the three postseason tournaments (Big Ten Championships, NCAA Lubbock Regional, NCAA Championships). She also excelled in the classroom, twice being named a WGCA All-American Scholar and earning Academic All-Big Ten honors three times.

Kiel ended her Boilermaker career as a Second Team All-Big Ten golfer as a senior. The won three individual titles throughout the 2024-25 campaign, becoming just the fourth Boilermaker in program history to become a three-time medalist in one season. Kiel also was Academic All-Big Ten in her final collegiate season.

Another Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Kahler tied the 36-hole school record with a 138 (70-68) at the 2025 Briar's Creek Invitational. She finished runner-up and was named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance.

Easterbrook, a rising junior on the men's golf team from Tomwell, England, earns his first Academic All-District honor after owning a 3.50 cumulative GPA through the spring semester in general management. He is coming off a sensational season for the Boilermakers, leading Purdue to the National Championships for the second straight year.

Easterbrook was voted a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten honoree and was a PING All-Midwest Region selection. He led the team with 71.77 stroke average, ranking eighth in school history in stroke average, while recording nine top-20 finishes (second most in school history) and six top-10 showings, good for fifth in Purdue history. He also finished with 19 rounds of even-par or better, good for fourth all-time. His 11 rounds in the 60s ranked second. He won the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic in early February and had nine straight events where he placed in the top 25 from September to April.

Blaze is coming off one of the biggest breakout seasons in Boilermaker wrestling history after finishing as the NCAA runner-up at 157 pounds. He became Purdue's youngest national finalist since at least 1950 and the school's first true sophomore All-American since 1995. The Perrysburg, Ohio, native entered the national tournament as a No. 8 seed and was the lowest-seeded wrestler in the country to make it to the NCAA finals.

Along his way to the podium, Blaze upset No. 1 Tyler Kasak of Penn State and ultimately finished with 14 wins against ranked opponents. He won the Big Ten bronze medal to become Purdue's first true sophomore to finish top-three in the conference since 2004, and led the team in Big Ten wins (13), top-10 wins (five), decisions (13), overtime wins (three), third-period points (82), overtime points (seven) and riding time points (14). He is also a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a 2025 Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Filipovich is Purdue's starting heavyweight who became a first-time NCAA qualifier in 2025 and helped the Boilermakers post their best team finish at the National Championships (13th of 66) since 1992. The redshirt junior from Indianapolis has proven to be one of Purdue's most flexible and reliable competitors through his three seasons, competing at three different weights. Thirteen months prior to qualifying for the 2025 NCAA Championships as a heavyweight, he was wrestling two weights lower as Purdue's starting 184-pounder. He bulked up roughly 50 pounds and was challenged to take on some of the biggest and strongest athletes in the country as a Big Ten heavyweight.

Filipovich faced more ranked opponents than any other Boilermaker in the regular season and finally earned his first ranked win in a convincing 9-4 decision against Nebraska's No. 21 Harley Andrews in the regular season finale. He built on that momentum and performed well enough in the Big Ten Championships to earn an automatic bid for the NCAA tournament. Additionally, Filipovich is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American — just the 10th three-timer in Purdue wrestling history — and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
