ROSEMONT, Ill. – A five-hit shutout that ended the opposition's six-game home win streak earned Purdue Baseball's Jordan Morales Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors.

Morales worked 7 2/3 innings in Friday's win at Michigan, matching the longest outing of the season by a Boilermaker (his own) while teaming up with Avery Cook for the series-opening shutout. It was Purdue's fifth shutout of the season, the program's most since 2012, including the second started by Morales.

The lefty joins Kyle Iwinski (March 7, 2023) as active Boilermakers to earn Big Ten Pitcher of the Week accolades. Morales is the first Purdue pitcher to win it after a Big Ten victory since Jackson Smeltz in an April 2022 shutout of Indiana and the first to win it in the pivotal month of May since Joe Haase during his 2012 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year campaign. Haase was also recognized following a shutout of Michigan.

Morales retired eight of nine his first time through the lineup and worked a trio of 1-2-3 innings. All four of his strikeouts came against the 1-2-3 portion of the lineup. Meanwhile, he also dominated U-M's 7-8-9 combination to the tune of an 0-for-9 showing. The only extra-base hit he allowed was a double to the final batter he faced, Big Ten Freshman of the Week winner Collin Priest.

Morales led Purdue to its first shutout win in Ann Arbor since 1993. His five-hit shutout looked even more impressive after Michigan scored 15 runs on 25 hits over the final two games of the series.

With Morales leading the way, the Boilers are 6-1 in Big Ten series openers this season, including winning five straight for the first time since 2012. His 2.76 ERA over 45 2/3 innings in conference play represents the best mark by a Boilermaker (minimum 30 innings) since Trent Johnson in 2019.

Morales joins Connor Caskenette (Player of the Week, April 29) and Luke Gaffney (five-time Freshman of the Week) as Boilermakers to be recognized by the conference office this season. Since Freshman of the Week was added to the league's weekly awards program in 2011, only Purdue's 2018 team had also featured at least one winner of all three awards.

Morales takes the ball again Thursday as the Boilermakers host first-place Illinois for the final weekend of the regular season. First pitch Thursday at Alexander Field is slated for 8 p.m. ET live on Big Ten Network.
