BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Purdue men's tennis team opened its weekend at the Dynamic Duo, hosted by Virginia Tech, on Friday with both of its teams advancing in the winners bracket.
The Dynamic Duo features a two-man team format. A tandem will face another team in a doubles contest and two singles matches. The winner of two of the three matches advances.
Aleksa Krivokapic and Maj Premzl won their opening round matchups against Martin Garcia-Ripoll and Francisco Lamas from ETSU. The Boilermaker duo outlasted the Buccaneers tandem 8-7 (5) in the doubles match to take an early lead. Krivokapic then cruised to a 6-4, 7-6 (3) over Garcia-Ripoll to move Purdue into the second round.
They will face Patrik Jurina and Damian Sancilio from Virginia Tech in the second round.
Daniel Labrador and Mujtaba Ali-Khan rallied from a match down to advance to the second round after facing Diego Cueto de Romana and Ryan Morgan from Virginia Tech. After the Hokies took the doubles contest. Labrador gutted out a 7-6(4), 7-5 win over Morgan, before Ali-Khan cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Cueto de Romana.
The veteran combo will face Old Domnion's Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan and Thomas Nelson.
