Boilermakers Advance at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team sent two doubles teams into the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, while four singles players advanced to the second round.

Juan David Velasquez and Daniel Labrador reached the final eight with matching 8-6 wins against two seeded squads, starting with an 8-6 win against No. 16-seed Miguel Avendano Cadena and Enrique Pena from Louisville and later against No. 9-seed Shu Matsuoka and Jakub Kroslak from Middle Tennessee State. The tandem will play No. 4-seed Alejandro Morena and Alex Kotzen from Tennessee on Saturday.

No. 7-seed Maj Premzl and Aleksa Krivokapic downed East Tennessee State's Peter Kalocsai and Pedro Cressoni 8-4 in the first match of the day. They later outlasted Shunsuke Mitsui and Alan Jesudason, the No. 5 seed, from Tennessee in a tiebreak 8-7 (3). The young pairing will face No. 2-seed Ondrej Horak and Karim Al-Amin from Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.

Stefan Simeunovic and Henrik Villanger posted an 8-3 win over Andrew Purck and Marco Pennelli from Xavier to start the day, before falling to Martin Garcia-Ripoll and Francisco Lamas from East Tennessee State 8-6.

Mujtaba Ali-Khan and Nour Fathalla defeated Matteo Antonescu and Karan Raghavendra from rival Indiana in an 8-5 decision, rallying from down 4-1. The tandem fell later to No. 8 seed Eli Stephenson and Matthew Rankin from Kentucky 8-5.

Stefan Simeunovic downed Ball State's Sajin Smith in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to set up a matchup with Indiana's Thomas Deacon on Saturday.

Daniel Labrador went the distance to defeat Esunge Ndumbe from Belmont, winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Labrador will take on 14th-seeded Michael Ross from Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Aleksa Krivokapic made quick work of Fernando Bulnes Garrorena in a 6-1, 7-5 decision. He will face Jack Batchelor from Bellarmine on Saturday.

Juan David Velasquez advanced with a walkover win. He will face Niklas Von Hellens from Belmont in the second round.
