ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Purdue women's tennis team was defeated by the University of Arkansas Razorbacks 4-3 in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the University of Michigan.
The Boilermakers fought hard against the Razorbacks during doubles play, ultimately losing the point. At. No. 3, Ashlie Wilson/Juana Larranaga were in the middle of a competitive battle, going 4-4, against Carolina Gomes Alonso/Kelly Keller when Arkansas clinched the first point of the match.
At. No. 1, senior Fodor was defeated by No. 59 Carolina Gomez Alonzo after a close second set ending at 7-5. This was her first ranked opponent of the season. Milic picked up the first win of the day for the Boilermakers at No. 5. The junior bested the Razorbacks' Morgan Cross in two sets, going 6-4, 6-2.
No. 133 Gallardo Guevara secured Purdue's second point by defeating Kelly Keller at No. 2. The match ended in two sets, 7-5, 6-4. Kennedy Gibbs claimed a victory over Indianna Spink after an intense three-set match. After falling short in the first set, Gibbs came back, winning the next two sets 6-4, 7-5.
