WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In the AVCA/Taraflex preseason poll, the Purdue volleyball squad was voted No. 16 in the nation. With the nod, the program extends their ranked streak to 93 consecutive weeks in the top-25.
The ranking is up four spots from last season's NCAA Second Round appearance and No. 20 final poll finish.
Among the team's returners is preseason All-Big Ten selection Eva Hudson, who led the league in total points and kills last season. In her inaugural season, Hudson garnered AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, a first team All-Big Ten and Purdue Female Athlete of the Year. Additionally, veterans and All-Big Ten Second Team selections Maddie Schermerhorn and Raven Colvin headline the returning class.
Meanwhile, Purdue welcomes the No. 3 recruiting class as freshmen, including the No. 1 overall recruit, according to PrepVolleyball. Newcomers include six freshmen: Chloe Chicoine, Grace Heaney, Taylor Anderson, Rachel Williams, Kenna Wollard and Julia Kane and one graduate transfer setter in Lorrin Poulter.
The Boilermakers are slated for its toughest non-conference slate in more than 21 years, with six non-conference opponents earning nods in the AVCA/Taraflex poll: No. 18 Creighton (8/26), No. 12 Marquette (9/1), No. 10 Kentucky or No. 19 Houston (9/9), No. 22 USC (9/15) and receiving votes Kansas (8/31) and UCF (9/14).
Fans can watch the Boilermakers in action Saturday at 2 p.m. ET when the team competes in the Black & Gold Scrimmage, the final intrasquad tune-up before the season officially begins next week.
