EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Purdue soccer team lost to Michigan State 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Boilermakers (3-7-0, 0-3-0 Big Ten) found the game's first goal in the 14th minute, but the Spartans (7-1-3, 2-0-1) answered with the next three, tying the game in the 20th minute and adding two in the second half, in the 53rd and 62nd minutes.
Amidst a light, intermittent rain at DeMartin Stadium, Purdue was out-shot 19-9, and MSU held a 7-4 advantage in shots on target. The home side earned six corners to the visitor's four.
Junior defender Nicole Kevdzija scored her first goal of the season and the fifth of her career, as junior midfielder Emily Mathews and freshman midfielder Abigail Roy earned the assists on the set-piece score.
Mathews paced the team with three shots and was one of four Boilermakers with a chance on goal, while sophomore forward Gracie Dunaway had two shots, also with one on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kailey Kimball made four saves to match her career high, set one game ago.
Michigan State had the first four shots in the contest, and the first two corner kicks. However, Kimball made a pair of saves and the defense forced two shots wide and prevented a chance on both corners.

Mathews collected her team-best fifth assist in 2022 and the 14th of her career, while Roy earned her second assist of the season and of her career.
Michigan State evened the game at 1-1 at 19:10, as Justina Gaynor scored on a header, assisted by Ruby Diodati.
Dunaway nearly gave the Boilermakers the lead back just 16 seconds later, but her shot was saved. MSU then had the next four chances, all off target, though one hit the post.
A shot wide by freshman forward Kayla Budish followed in the 30th minute, and Kimball made a save in the 41st to close out the first half.
The home side held an 11-3 advantage in shots, and a 3-2 edge in shots on goal, in the opening 45 minutes. The Spartans had three corners to the Boilermakers' one.

The Spartans extended their advantage to 3-1 thanks to Bria Schrotenboer at 61:04.
Mathews had a good chance saved less than a minute later, and junior midfielder Hannah Lapeire had a shot go wide in the 73rd.
Purdue had four shots and a corner in the last eight minutes, but could not find the back of the net. Mathews had two chances, one off target and another blocked, while senior forward Gabby Hollar had a shot saved and Dunaway sent one wide.
