Colvin, Ellis to Participate in Inaugural Big Ten Volleyball Media Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The conference office is set to host the inaugural Big Ten Volleyball Media Day at the Big Ten Network studios in Chicago on August 1-2, with Purdue among the seven programs slated to participate in its opening day.

Joining the media in the league offices on Monday is sophomore Raven Colvin, senior Emma Ellis and head coach Dave Shondell.

The Boilermakers are among one of the seven programs attending on Day One, while the remaining teams will participate on Tuesday. The event will serve as the first of its kind in collegiate volleyball.
Single-match tickets will go on-sale August 2 for John Purdue Club members and August 3 for the general public.

The 2022 season marks the 20th for Art and Connie Euler Head Coach Dave Shondell and his coaching staff at Purdue, which together makes the longest tenured coaching staff in the Power Five. In addition to coming off a pair of back-to-back Elite Eight Finishes, Shondell has led the Boilermakers to 76 consecutive weeks ranked in the AVCA poll, including the last 22 weeks among the top-15.

  • Big Ten All-Freshman Team
  • Competed with the U21 U.S. National Team in Summer 2022, helping the U.S. win gold for the second time in history
  • Finished the year ranked eighth in the Big Ten and 43rd in the nation with 1.23 blocks per set
  • One of just two freshmen in the Big Ten to average over a .344 hitting efficiency (minimum 3.0 attempts/set)
  • Second on the team in total blocks (118.0),
  • Posted the third-most kills on the team with 169
  • Recorded a career-high 11 kills in the five-set thriller vs. BYU in the NCAA Regional Semifinals
  • Registered a career-best 11 total blocks (1-10) vs. No. 3 Wisconsin (10/31), helping Purdue to its second victory over a top-3 opponent in Holloway Gymnasium in 2021. The mark was the second-most in a four-setter by a Big Ten player in 2021
  • Produced seven or more block assists six times
  • Went errorless in five matches, while committing just one or fewer errors in 16 matches (nine of which were vs. Big Ten opponents)
  • Recorded the second-highest hitting % in a three-set match (10-14 attempts) in program history with her .900 efficiency (9-0-10) vs. Purdue Fort Wayne (9/17)
 
Emma Ellis in 2021
  • Saw action in 25 matches this season and a total of 67
  • Averaged 2.20 points per set
  • Recorded three matches with double-digit kills: 15 at Maryland (11/5), 13 vs. Lipscomb (9/11) and 10 at #25 Washington State (9/3)
  • Posted a career-high for single game kills (15) in the victory at Maryland (11/5) to lead the team in the four setter, scoring four consecutive points in set 2 (three kills and a block assist)
  • Recorded another career-high for single game block solos (2) in the victory vs. Northwestern (10/27)
  • Set four season-bests in four defensive categories: total block solos (7), total block assists (33), total blocks (40), and blocks per set (.6)
  • Hit above .300 on seven occasions, including three matches above .400
  • In the First Round of the NCAA tournament vs. Illinois St., Ellis recorded the second-highest hitting % of the season with a .545 clip on 7 kills and one error on 11 swings
  • Produced eight kills in the victory vs.  #3 Wisconsin (10/31)
