STANFORD, Calif. – Dominating the par 3s and the par 5s, Purdue Women's Golf got off to a strong start at the NCAA Stanford Regional on Monday (May 9). Entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed, the Boilermakers produced an opening-round 285 (+1) to sit in fourth place.

Purdue paced the field in par-3 scoring (-3) and par-5 scoring (-5), while recording 17 birdies as a team to rank second out of the dozen teams. All five Boilermakers birdied the par-5 12th, taking advantage of a hole that features three trees in the middle of the fairway. The top four teams at the conclusion of 54 holes advance to the NCAA Championships, and the Boilermakers find themselves in that fourth spot behind LSU (-5), USC (-4) and host Stanford (-1).

Leading the way for the Boilermakers was junior Sifat Sagoo with a season-low 69 (-2). Sagoo made the trip out to California as Purdue's alternate before earning her way into the lineup before the start of the tournament. The move by head coach Devon Brouse paid off, as Sagoo made a tournament-best six birdies throughout her round. Sagoo took advantage of the five par 3s on the course, playing them 3-under thanks to a trio of birdies. After a double bogey at the second, she bounced back with birdies on the par-3 fourth and the par-3 eighth to make the turn at level par. The New Delhi, India, native added four birdies on the back to secure her first round in the 60s this season. Sagoo is just two shots off the individual lead, tied for third.

Danielle du Toit carded an even-par 71. The senior recorded all four of her birdies on the par 3s and par 5s, two apiece on each type of hole. She made the turn at 1-under after a bogey-free front nine. Three birdies over her final seven holes helped her hover around level par, putting her in 12th on the individual leaderboard.

Inez Wanamarta added a 72 (+1), tied for 15th. The graduate student-athlete went pin-seeking on the back nine, hitting the flagstick twice on approach shots. It first happened on the par-5 12th, which led to her first birdie of the day. Wrapping up her round, Wanamarta drilled the pin from the middle of the fairway, and the ball took an unlucky ricochet 20 feet to the left of the hole. Unfazed by the bad break, she rolled in the birdie putt to take some momentum into the clubhouse.

Kan Bunnabodee shot 73 (+2), while Ashley Kozlowski fired a 74 (+3). After not finding a birdie on the front, Bunnabodee recorded a pair on the back side. Kozlowski's round featured a trio of birdies, all coming on par 5s.

Purdue looks to remain in the top four and climb the leaderboard on moving day. The Boilermakers begin their second round Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET).
