WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – With a lot on the line for the final weekend of the regular season, Purdue baseball hosts No. 14 Maryland for a Big Ten Conference spotlight series at Alexander Field.

First pitch is set for Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The games on Friday and Saturday are slated to be televised live by the Big Ten Network.

The Boilermakers' Senior Day ceremony and Alumni Day festivities are on the schedule for Saturday before the regular-season finale. The annual alumni batting practice session and tailgate are set for Saturday morning. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET. Eleven seniors plus team manager and December 2021 graduate Grant Brunt will be recognized Saturday for their contributions to the program.

The Boilermakers' large senior class features five players that have been with the program for at least four years – Tanner Haston, Ryan Howe, Tyler Powers, Jackson Smeltz and Kyle Wade. Ricky Castro and Eric Hildebrand joined the bullpen in the fall of 2019, transferring in as sophomores. Nolan Daniel, Steve Ramirez, Landon Weins and Troy Viola later fortified the class as transfers as well.

Shortstop Evan Albrecht has elected to return for the 2023 season, exercising an eligibility extension related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Powers opted for a similar path to remain with the program as a fifth-year student-athlete this season. Due to an injury this season, 2022 graduate Calvin Schapira also plans to return next season.

Purdue remains in eighth place in the Big Ten standings, maintaining its hold on the final bid to the eight-team Big Ten Tournament with its rubber game win Sunday at Northwestern. A series win vs. UMD would clinch a tournament berth and one victory would also be enough if Northwestern and Nebraska are unable to sweep their series.

Maryland has won a program-record 42 games and is tied atop the Big Ten standings with Rutgers. The Terrapins were projected as a top-eight national seed in the NCAA Tournament by D1Baseball.com this week. The last time the Boilermakers hosted a 40-win team was in May 2012 when a 39-10 Purdue team defeated a 40-12 Indiana State squad in the final game played at Lambert Field. Coincidentally, the Boilermakers' 2012 Big Ten championship team will be recognized before the game Saturday on the 10-year anniversary of that magical season.

The Terrapins and Scarlet Knights both play on the road this weekend, with Rutgers visiting Michigan. The BTN will be televising all three games of the Rutgers-Michigan series. The BTN is set to televise multiple games at Alexander Field during the final weekend of the regular season for the third time in the last five years dating back to 2018.

The Boilermakers are set to host Maryland for just the second time since UMD joined the league for the 2014-15 school year. The Terrapins' three games at Alexander are the fewest of any Big Ten team since 2015. Maryland was scheduled to play at Alexander in May 2020. Purdue has played 335 games, including 10 vs. UMD, since it last hosted the Terps in April 2015.
