WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball's midweek game at Indiana State has been called off due to the threat of incoming thunderstorms for the Terre Haute area Wednesday evening.
The game was slated for 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday and storms are forecasted to arrive in Vigo County by 5 p.m. ISU was in favor of starting the game at 1 p.m., but Purdue was unable to depart campus early enough Wednesday to accommodate the afternoon start.
The coaching staffs agreed to call the game Tuesday to allow ISU an opportunity to find a replacement opponent for Wednesday at 1 p.m. The two teams are scheduled to play Wednesday, April 6 in West Lafayette. A doubleheader is unlikely in part because next week is already a scheduled five-game week for the Boilermakers.
Purdue had five of its 18 schedule games in March canceled due to inclement weather. Additionally, the March 22 home game vs. Northern Illinois was postponed until Tuesday, April 5. The Boilermakers are scheduled to play on 20 of the 30 days in April leading up to final exams week (May 2-6) on campus. April 17-18 and 27-28 are currently their only consecutive off days on the schedule in April.
Up next for Purdue is a three-game Big Ten series at Illinois, begining Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
