WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 19 Purdue baseball's first challenge as the nation's last remaining undefeated team is a midweek matchup Tuesday with first-time foe Dayton as the Boilermakers begin their first of three five-game weeks this season.

First pitch at Alexander Field is set for 4 p.m. ET as the first of eight midweek non-conference games on Purdue's home schedule. General admission tickets, domestic draft beers and a trio of food items are all specially priced at $3 for all midweek games at Alexander.

At 14-0, the Boilermakers became the nation's final unbeaten team Sunday when Clemson and Virginia suffered their first losses. With 14 straight wins to open the season, Purdue has compiled the longest single-season win streak in program history. After also winning the 2021 finale, a victory Tuesday would match the team's longest streak ever – 16 consecutive wins from the end of 1908 through the beginning of 1909.

LONGEST ACTIVE WIN STREAKS NATIONALLY ENTERING THE WEEK
Purdue: 15
Vanderbilt: 12
Southeast Missouri State: 11
Old Dominion: 10
Notre Dame: 9

The Boilermakers enter the week ranked among the top 10 nationally in stolen bases per game (5th, 3.14) and doubles per game (10th, 2.64). They also have four players – Mike Bolton Jr., Cam Thompson, Troy Viola and CJ Valdez – riding active on-base streaks of at least 10 consecutive games. In the program's Alexander Field era (since 2013), only the 2018 team had as many as three players post similar double-figure streaks over the first 15 games. Cameron Perkins reached base safely in the first 50 games of 2011 (and 55 of 56 overall) to set the standard for season-opening on-base streaks.

Meanwhile, with an RBI in seven consecutive games, Cam Thompson is not only leading the Big Ten with 23 RBI, he's also joined Ben Nisle (2021) and Kyle Wood (2016) as the only Boilermakers with a streak that long in the last 20 years.

NOTABLE ACTIVE STREAKS
Cam Thompson – 14-game on-base & 7-game RBI streaks
Mike Bolton Jr. – 15-game on-base streak (dating back to 2021 season finale)
Troy Viola – 12-game on-base streak
CJ Valdez – 11-game on-base (every game he has played)

With Purdue electing to give the ball to freshman Troy Wansing on Tuesday, a newcomer will make his Alexander Field debut as the starting pitcher for the second game in a row. Wyatt Wendell and Wansing are among a group of 13 pitchers to debut at home as starters since Alexander opened. Wansing is in line to become the seventh true freshman to do it, a group that also includes current teammate Kyle Wade (2019).

Monday to Sunday is the traditional week during the college baseball season. Purdue has not played five games over that span since the final week of April in 2019 – winning four of five at Alexander vs. Chicago State, Purdue Fort Wayne and Southeast Missouri State. This weekend, the Boilermakers are slated to play their first split-site weekend series since March 2011 vs. Bradley, taking on Illinois State for two games in both Normal and West Lafayette.

FIVE-GAME WEEKS THIS SEASON (MONDAY-SUNDAY)
March 14-20 – vs Dayton, at/vs Illinois State (4)
March 28-April 3 – vs UIC, at Indiana State, at Illinois (3)
April 18-24 – at UIC, vs Evansville, vs Belmont (3)

Dayton is the fifth and final first-time foe on Purdue's schedule. The Boilermakers have not played an Atlantic-10 team since a three-game series at Saint Louis on the 2018 spring break trip. The Billikens were also the last A-10 opponent to visit Alexander Field (in 2017). The Flyers opened the season 5-1 after reaching the championship game of the A-10 Tournament last year. Dayton won two of three vs. Evansville and Belmont in weekends No. 2 and 3 this season, coming back to take the series after dropping the opener both times. Purdue is slated to host both Evansville and Belmont during its final five-game week in late April.
