WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Jake Parr led the way with three hits and three RBI as Purdue baseball scored in eight of the 12 innings to emerge victorious in a fall ball exhibition game with Dayton on Saturday at Alexander Field.
The Boilermakers connected for five extra-base hits, all leading to runs. On the mound, six of Purdue's first seven pitchers posted a zero and the Boilers did not surrender an earned run until the eighth inning.
Parr smashed a two-run double to the wall in left center to open the scoring in the second inning after Jo Stevens had tripled into the right field corner two at-bats earlier. Parr also singled in a run in the sixth inning.
Weston Gingerich cleared the bases with a three-run triple to center field in the 10th inning. Cooper Cornblum connected for an RBI double down the right field line in the seventh inning.
Malott capped the scoring with a two-out, two-run single in the 12th inning. The freshman also stole three bases while being used as a pinch runner.
Khal Stephen, Jonathan Blackwell, Aaron Suval, CJ Backer, Davis Pratt, Kyle Iwinski and Griffin Lohman all worked a scoreless inning as the Boilermakers used 12 pitchers. Jackson Dannelley, Logan Danzeisen, Blackwell and Lohman each struck out a pair.
Backer worked a 1-2-3 frame vs. the 3-4-5 portion of the Dayton lineup. Iwinski induced a 6-4-3 double play ball to erase a leadoff single.
The Boilermakers close out fall ball at Alexander with the annual Black & Gold Series. The three-game intrasquad is set for Oct. 20 to 22 and is open to the public. Team roster and the afternoon start times will be finalized the week of Oct. 17.

Mike Bolton Jr. and Corbin Malott both delivered two-run singles. Bolton's hit in the eighth inning may have been the most exciting sequence of the day. The line drive single to center field came on a full-count pitch with the bases loaded and two outs, meaning all the runners were in motion. It remained an entertaining sequence as Bolton tried to stretch it to a double but was thrown out on a close play at second.#4faves from the @PurdueBaseball scrimmage today against Dayton. pic.twitter.com/raa8FA07qu
