WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue wrestling returns to the mat for the first time in the 2022-23 season on Friday for the annual Boilermaker Wrestle-Offs. The first of the estimated 19 intra-squad matches will start at 6 p.m. in Holloway Gymnasium and feature a mixture of new and familiar faces as the program prepares for the new year ahead.
"It's a great opportunity for guys to show us what they're capable of," said head coach Tony Ersland. "If you want to represent this team you've got to be a competitor. I want to see who is going to go out there, get after it and wrestle with authority. We have the next couple of weeks to see who can do that for us as we get ready for our first dual."
The Boilermakers bring back four NCAA qualifiers from last year's squad that went 10-5 in dual action, highlighted by wins over a then-ranked No. 9 Nebraska and No. 16 Minnesota. The team has another 15 duals on the schedule this season in addition to five tournament trips.
Five Purdue wrestlers earned preseason rankings from various outlets, with two earning top-10 nods. Included amongst the polls are a No. 10 mark for Matt Ramos who moves to 125 pounds this year, a spot at No. 12 for fifth-year senior Parker Filius, a consensus No. 14 for Kendall Coleman at 157, a rankings debut for transfer Jake Null at No. 33 in the 174-pound division and Thomas Penola rounds out the group at No. 10.
The doors to Holloway will open at 5 p.m. and all seating will be first come first served. The event will be streamed on BTN+. Follow @PurdueWrestling on Twitter and Instagram for the latest news, updates and match-by-match coverage of the event.
All matchups and their order are subject to change.
