The 17th-ranked Purdue wrestling team puts state supremacy on the line Saturday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 17th-ranked Purdue wrestling team puts state supremacy on the line Saturday, traveling to intrastate archrival Indiana for a noon ET dual at Wilkinson Hall. The dual will air live on the Big Ten Network with Tim Johnson and JD Bergman on the call as Purdue aims to improve upon its 8-4 overall dual record (2-3 B1G).
 
PURDUE LINEUP & RANKINGS
Purdue held down the No. 17 spot in the NWCA Coaches Poll for the second straight week, marking its 33rd consecutive week in the rankings and 64th ranking in the last 66 national polls. Sophomore Matt Ramos and senior Michael Woulfe made the move out of the "honorable mention" category and into the national rankings this week as Ramos is tabbed as high as No. 23 in the country via FloWrestling. The initial NCAA Coaches Panel rankings were release late last week as well, unveiling eight Boilermakers ranked inside the top-33 at their respective weights.

LAST TIME OUT
Purdue posted a 1-1 record this past weekend, earning a 25-13 win over Illinois on Friday before a 23-12 loss to No. 8 Wisconsin on Sunday. Kendall Coleman, Gerrit Nijenhuis and Thomas Penola all turned in 2-0 weekends to lead the efforts, including a fall and an overtime win for Nijenhuis.
 
PURDUE NOTES
• Head coach Tony Ersland is in his eighth season at Purdue and is 65-54 in dual competition with the Boilermakers.
• Ersland wrestled for the University of Iowa from 1992-97, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament at 177, and competing on the highest scoring team at the NCAA Championships in history (170).
• Purdue's season-opening win at Drexel marks eight straight seasons that the Boilermakers have won their first dual of the year under Ersland.
• Purdue opened dual competition 6-0 for the first time since 2008-09.
• The Boilermakers' win at No. 9 Nebraska marked the program's first top-10 ranked victory since 2004 (a 21-20 win on criteria over Arizona State), and the first top-10 career dual victory for Ersland as a head coach.
• Purdue held its annual "Hammer Down Cancer" event on January 21 vs. Illinois, and auctioned off its special edition singlets, donated by Rudis, to raise over $4,000 for the Purdue Center for Cancer Research.
• Devin Schroder and Max Lyon capitalized on the NCAA's COVID extension waiver, returning for an extra year of eligibility in 2021-22.
• Schroder is tied for second in the nation with six technical falls on the season
• Schroder ranks second in program history in back points, surpassing the 500-point mark at CKLV, and is 17th all-time at Purdue with a .728 win percentage (91-34).
• 48 of Schroder's 91 career wins have come via bonus points (.527), including 27 technical falls, while 40 of his career victories are shutouts (.440).
Matt Ramos won the 2018 Cadet Freestyle World Championship for the U.S., capturing the 51 kg title in Zagreb, Croatia.
• Ramos's two wins to open the season were his first official folkstyle matches since his senior year of high school at Lockport HS (Illinois) in 2019, winning by technical fall and fall in the two bouts.
• Parker Filius leads the team with 24 matches and 17 victories on the season, including a 10-2 dual record and six bonus-point wins.
• Alec White rejoined the Purdue lineup on Jan. 15 vs. Michigan State, competing for the first time since suffering an injury in the season-opener at Drexel.
• Kendall Coleman surpassed the 60-career match at CKLV, and earned a spot on Purdue's career win- percentage record list, coming in at No. 8 (.779, 53-15).
• Coleman is three takedowns shy of 200 for his career, including 55 so far this season.
• Hayden Lohrey earned his first ranked win last Friday, scoring a 7-5 decision over No. 26 Danny Braunagel of Illinois.
• Gerrit Nijenhuis has the highest-ranked win of any Boilermaker this season, topping No. 3 Mikey Labriola at Nebraska on Jan. 7. Twelve of his 24 matches this season have come against ranked opponents, earning wins against six of them.
• Max Lyon has cracked the top-20 for career takedowns at Purdue, tied for 20th with Colton Salazar (224.)
• Thomas Penola leads the team in takedowns (65) and total points (185), and nearly half of his scoring this season has come in the third-period, where he's outscoring opponents 86-35.
• Michael Woulfe is wrestling his first collegiate season since 2016 after serving in the United States Navy for the last five years and has picked up right where he left off, adding a team-high six falls to his career total (30) after posting 17 falls in his final year at Navy.
 
INDIANA NOTES
• The Hoosiers enter the weekend at 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference duals, coming off of their first Big Ten dual win of the season.
• Indiana topped visiting Maryland 26-12, winning seven weights including bonus points at 125 and 141 pounds.
• The Hoosiers have a trio of ranked wrestlers in their lineup, coming at 133, 141 and 184 pounds.
• Indiana leads the all-time series against Purdue 62-42-3, but the Boilermakers have won 11 consecutive duals over the Hoosiers, including a 38-3 victory in West Lafayette in 2021.
